Nonni’s Cookie Bites are a Tasty Little Treat

by | Nov 1, 2021 | Taste Tests

They may seem small, but Nonni’s Cookie Bites are just the right size of tasty little treat to quell your sweet tooth beast. These tiny, buttery cookie squares are covered in chocolate and topped with roasted nuts or coconut. They’re literally the perfect bite!

If you know me, you know I love me a bargain. On a recent grocery order from an online retailer that helps reduce food waste by discounting ugly produce, I came across Nonni’s Cookie Bites.

I love Nonni’s Biscotti, so I figured that I’m probably going to love these little chocolate covered cookie bites just as much. I quickly grabbed a bag of the Milk Chocolate Roasted Almond and Dark Chocolate Toasted Coconut to take home for the BF and I to try out.

We tasted, we tested, and here’s what we concluded about Nonni’s Cookie Bites…

Taste Test Review Rating System

Trying out new things is always fun, but it’s honest and transparent reviews that really help us as consumers to make an informed decision. Given this, I will always be candid about how I feel about a product.

Every food product is reviewed on its Appearance, Taste, and Price. I take into account questions like, “Does it look IRL like it does on the packaging?”, “Would I go back for seconds?”, “Is this something I would share with others?”, and “Is this worth the price?”.

There’s no point system here—we don’t go through life judging whether something is a 3.7/10 or 7.8/10. We judge based on whether we like or don’t like something and whether we would or would not buy it again. So my rating system is simply four levels of appeal: Love it, Like it, Leave it, and Lose it.

Nonni’s Cookie Bites First Impressions

The cookie bites are kind of small, or smaller than we’d expected. However, they look like having a handful will be enough to satisfy a craving for sweets. There’s no lack of toppings on these tiny cookie bites! The ratio of toppings (nuts or coconut, in this case) to cookie is something we really liked and made us eager to try the cookies.

They also smelled really nice. You know how a cookie baking in the oven draws you in with its sweet aroma?? Nonni’s does the same with these Cookie Bites. They smell sweet, chocolaty, and inviting.

Appearance – Do Nonnie’s Cookie Bites Look as Advertised?

On the package, these little cookies look like small squares enrobed in chocolate and abundantly topped with nuts and toasted coconut. Sure the shreds of coconut don’t look as pretty and the chunks of nuts aren’t as big as on the packaging, but they’re a pretty accurate depiction of what you get in the bag.

Granted we thought they would be a little bigger than they actually are, but that’s often the case of packaging where it’s hard to tell the size of the item. So we’re not taking any points away for being surprised by their actual size.

Taste – Do Nonni’s Cookie Bites Keep You Coming Back for More?

The chocolate on the cookies is an ideal thickness, not too thick and not too thin. There’s also more than enough nuts and coconut toppings to amplify the flavor. But also not so many toppings as to take away from the overall texture of each cookie.

The cookie inside is a shortbread style cookie–it’s soft, but firm. If that makes sense. It’s not soft as in pillowy soft, but rather that it’s not a shortbread style cookie that feels like you’re biting into a brick. The crumb of the cookie is tight and dense, so this isn’t a crumbly cookie that will be all over your shirt as you eat them.

We tried both flavors at the same time. Both were quite tasty–items that we would gladly reach for repeatedly. Though we found that we had a slight preference of the coconut flavor to the almond flavor.

Price – Are Nonni’s Cookie Bites Worth It?

We paid $2.99 for each 5 ounce bag of Nonni’s Cookie Bites. One serving of cookie bites is 5 bites and each bag has approximately 5 servings. For a 5 serving bag, I think that $2.99 is a very fair price. Especially given that these cookies feel a little bit more high-end than typical mass-produced cookies you get at the grocery store.

Results — Love It, Like It, Leave It, or Lose It?

Overall, Nonni’s Cookie Bites are a Love It! They are as delicious as they look on the package, they’re at a great price point, and they’re the perfect size for just a nibble or an actual snack.

Where You Can Find Nonni’s Cookie Bites

I haven’t seen these cookie bites available in person, and they seem to be scarce online. I’m not sure if Nonni’s stopped making them or this is a result of supply chain issues the U.S. is currently facing. Either way, if you happen to see them while shopping, you should TOTALLY grab a few bags!
